The Arnold Residence

Conditions, Decisions, and Value

A long, narrow lot in Nichols Hills—more than three times deeper than it was wide—required a large single-family residence to be carefully organized to maintain light, ventilation, and usable outdoor space. The plan is structured around a central courtyard that brings daylight and air deep into the home while anchoring the primary gathering spaces. This configuration allows the living room and adjacent areas to open to multiple outdoor environments, creating flexibility and variety across the length of the site. Drawing from the restraint and proportion of European countryside architecture, the massing resolves a complex program into a calm, balanced façade that belies the scale of the home behind it.
